Women Empowerment Through Skill Development

women empowerment through skill development

Background

A Skills & Crafts Development Center was established in 2007 at Chundiko
for  training   of   females   in   Cutting   & Sewing under the patronage of the defunct OMV .  After OMV handed it over to be run by community, it   continues to offer  six-month long  course  for females of Chundiko City. The course covers a diverse range of “Cutting & Sewing”, beyond the traditional one. The   center   functions   in   a   rented   building   in   the   heart   of   city   (Chundiko)   where females   have   comfortable   access.   A   group   of   local   community   representatives supports the centre administration in routine operations and admission process. A good number of batches have successfully graduated from the Center.

The Entrepreneur Model

The entrepreneur model is conceived with the objective of running SCDC with less administrative and recurring support from OMV.  The local trainer is anticipated as entrepreneur for the Center, which sustains the Center facility in long run. The model works on the following objectives:
  • Advancement of local trainers as a social entrepreneur
  • Provision of skill based training to at least 40 females of area in a year Strategy
